Billie Joe and Mike met in the school cafeteria in 1982 when they were 10. At home they would play other bands songs.Then they started playing at Gilman Street with drummer John Kriftmeyer (aka Al Sobrante) and they formed the band Sweet Children which we know today as Green Day.They recorded their first EP 1,000 hours at the age of 17. Mike graduated High School and Billie Joe dropped out at 18.

Their debut album "1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours" came out in 1990. After that success their drummer John Kriftmeyer left the band to go to College. Soon after they met Tre Cool and made their 2nd album Kerplunk.

Now Green Day has been around for 16 years since 1989. Green Day's first album together Kerplunk to now American Idiot. Green Day introduced punk rock to people all over the world. And inspired bands like Good Charlotte and Simple Plan.
